Village Market expands

THE prayers of Gold Coast fashionistas have been answered.

The Village Markets will now run fortnightly on the first and third Sunday of each month, giving fashion lovers an extra chance to find a must-have item.

The overwhelming success of the Gold Coast’s premier market destination has been a thrill for its creators Marissa Bowden and Sarah Schoeller.

The road to success has not always been an easy one for the fashionable business-minded duo.

A few years ago the pair was made redundant from their marketing positions and with some unexpected time on their hands came up with the concept of The Village Markets.

Ms Schoeller said designers and retailers clamoured each month to sell their wares at the trendy location.

“The idea came from the fashion markets in Melbourne and Sydney. We started wondering why there was nothing like that on the Gold Coast,” Ms Schoeller said.

“We have been really surprised with the success. More than 2000 shoppers come to each event.

“We have had our application into the Gold Coast Council for the past 14 months and we have at last been approved to trade fortnightly.”

Ms Schoeller said the quality of the merchandise was the key to the success.

“People come there to buy, they know what they are looking for and they want beautiful, high quality merchandise,” Ms Schoeller said.

“Burleigh is fast becoming the fashion capital of the Gold Coast.”

The duo are now being approached to set up their winning market plan in other city locations.

Designers from across the country are now applying to showcase their wares at The Village Markets.

The Village Markets will take place tomorrow at Burleigh Heads State School.
