Violent road rage incident leaves victim in bloody mess
THE victim of a vicious broad daylight attack yesterday at Goldfields Plaza was kicked in the body while on the ground after enduring several punches to the head, according to a witness.
The witness, who did not want to be named, said the road rage victim was a passenger in a car that was driving behind two men as they walked in the driveway of the Goldfields Plaza Monkland St carpark.
When someone in the car beeped the horn at the two men on foot, who the witness said were "sauntering around", one of the pair stubbed a cigarette on the bonnet of the car.
The witness said the victim then got out of the car and the three began a verbal altercation before the pair of men turned on him.
They allegedly beat the victim repeatedly in the head until he fell to the ground, bloodied and thought to be unconscious.
"They fully laid into him," the witness said at around 2.15pm yesterday, some half-an-hour after the incident.
The witness said the man was then kicked by one of the attackers before the pair walked into Goldfields Plaza.
The witness was one of several people who tended to the victim, who was left bloodied on the carpark floor.
Gympie paramedics treated the man at the scene, wrapping his head with a bandage and placing a patch over what appeared to be a red eye.
The victim was also seen holding what looked to be a bleeding nose as a woman sat next to him in tears.
The man was then taken to hospital.
About 5pm yesterday Gympie police acting Sergeant Steve Carter reported two male suspects had been arrested and were in custody in relation to what the officer described as a violent assault.
He said the men would most likely appear in Gympie Magistrates Court at a later date.
He said investigations were continuing.
