Voice of Angell in charts top 20

CABARITA surfers will recognise Nolan Angell but they might not know the band the surfing musician fronts has had a single in the country music top-20 charts for the past three months.

The single, The Morning Sun, has been doing well for The Genes on the charts and radio play.

"Yeah that single of the new album is getting good airtime and sitting solid in the charts, which is great," Angell said.

Their entire new album, Deep In The Heart of The Rat Race, was recorded in the home studio.

Not too many artists in the country charts hit the water for a wave most days like Mr Angell.

"I've always been into surfing so about seven years ago I made the shift from Brisbane and have been loving it ever since," he said.

His older brother, Morgan, first got him into music at six years old and the pair has performed as The Genes for the past 22 years.

"Playing with your brother is great because you can be dead honest with each other and any problems get put on the table straight away."

The band's vast experience has seen them pair fine tune their effortless sound, which has seen them tour with the likes of Midnight Oil.

The band's Facebook page has gig dates and free downloads at facebook.com/thegenesband.
