Voice Weavers prepare to jet off to Russia

PERFORMING at the 2016 World Choir Games in Russia will be a big leap forward for local a capella choir Voice Weavers.

The choir, which consists of Tweed and Southern Gold Coast residents, will perform some warm-up and fundraiser shows in the lead-up to this great adventure, which will take them to Sochi in July.

Choir members Jeneen McLeod said they would perform near Woolworths The Strand, Coolangatta, on April 30, before a fundraiser performance at Tweed Civic Centre next month.

Ms McLeod said they had performed some Christmas concerts in the shopping centre in December.

The singers are now keen to return in a bid to finesse their Sochi set.

“We’ve been having workshops... and fine-tuning our performance,” she said,

Ms McLeod said the choir would be up against the best in the world and judged on a range of criteria.

They would draw on Australian influences for a unique performance.

“It’s a bit like the Olympics – and we’re the only Australian choir that’s registered,” she said.

The choir is running a raffle to help get them to Russia. More details at www.voiceweavers.com.au.
