SAVING LIVES ON WATER

EXCITEMENT plus at Point Danger. The Queen's Relay Baton was delivered by helicopter to Point Danger in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games.

To mark this, we at Marine Rescue Point Danger held a fundraising breakfast barbecue for the public, associated volunteers and the media during the event.

The unit welcomed Borobi into the radio room where he was shown the procedures that our boaters use to keep them safe on the water.

Borobi encourages all boaters to log on and log off with your Marine Rescue Unit at all times.

MRPD coxswain Nicole Lockie had the privilege to carry the Queen's Relay Baton along a section of the route at North Kirra. Congratulations Nicole!

Many of our volunteers attended the Anzac Day dawn service at Chris Cunningham Park last week.

A wreath was laid by Unit Commander Glenda Ashby and Warrant Officer RAAF Darcy Henriksen at the very moving ceremony.

We would like thank all those who supported the unit at the Bunnings fundraising barbecue on Anzac Day afternoon.

In February and March, we saw Point Danger perform three tow jobs which in turn helped 17 persons and one dog brought back safely to shore.

There were 2390 vessels crossing the Tweed Bar, plus 209 crossings for trawlers and trap boats over these two months.

With the cooler months coming up and if you intend to rest your boat, a couple of hints are to wash your outboard motors and flush the engines with clean water.

Also, wash all salt water off the boat and trailer.

Don't forget to service your motors, check batteries, safety gear, fuel and include your boat trailer in your maintenance program.

LOG IN: Please call in on VHF Channel 16 or 27 MHz on Channel 88, where a MRPD operator will log all your boating details. Once you have logged on, please Keep your radio tuned in to VHF Channel 16 or 27 MHz as Marine Rescue constantly monitorS these frequencies.
