Footpath driver at Mooloolaba

Wait that's not a road? Couple caught driving along footpath

AN ELDERLY couple may have thought they were taking the scenic route as they mistook a footpath at Mooloolaba for a road.

Alexandra Headland's David Tregaskis watched the stuff up which he captured on film.

He said he saw the couple, believed to be in their 80s, driving about 100m along Mooloolaba Esplanade footpath.

"They must've been looking for a park and drove onto the footpath," he said.

The pair, which were from NSW, quickly realised their mistake and turned around driving back along the footpath to escape.

"They realised they stuffed up, a good one hundred people saw them. Luckily no one was hurt," Mr Tregaskis said.

"A few had to get off the track."

Mr Tregaskis felt perhaps the area should've been better signed to highlight the difference between the footpath and the car park.

"You can tell the difference, it is a footpath," he said.

While the police were believed to be investigating the incident, Mr Tregaskis said he thought it was simply an honest mistake.

"I think they might need a voucher to Specsavers," he said.

Police were yet to comment on the incident.
