Waller out to continue winter win streak

CHAMPION trainer Chris Waller will be looking to continue his staggering winter carnival success in the Channel 7 Ipswich Cup (2150m) and Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) tomorrow.

Sydney's premier trainer has 12 overall winners since the carnival started in April, and eight feature race wins.

"It's a good time of year for the horses. They enjoy the warmer weather in Queens-land, and seem to race well,” Waller said.

"It's been a good few weeks.”

The Waller stable is fielding Tumultuous and My Giuliano in the Cup.

Although considered outside chances with the bookies, with big name hoops Corey Brown and Michael Cahill in the saddle, Waller was optimistic.

He could not be drawn on providing a best tip.

"I'm not really sure, I'm not a tipping trainer so I can't help you there,” Waller said.

"Tumultuous won the million dollar race back in January. He has an awkward draw (barrier 10), but he's a horse who will get back and finish off well.

"Hopefully there's some speed on to help his chances.”

Cahill rode Self Sense for David Brideoake to victory in the 2017 Ipswich Cup.

He returns to the main event for Waller on My Giuliano.

The Cahill-My Giuliano partnership combined for back-to-back wins at Doomben over 2200m back in November.

"The other horse (My Giuliano) has good Queensland form,” Waller said.

"He won (two) races there during the summer and should be peaking.”

With Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Brown aboard, Religify is on the fifth line of betting with Ladbrokes to take out the Eye Liner.

Waller rated the seven-year-old gelding "a very good horse” and expects him to test favourite Tyzone from barrier 10.

"He's having his first-up run for a long time,” Waller said.

"Normally you'd need a run or two to get to full fitness, but we are backing his class to take him a long way.”

Waller previously won the Ipswich Cup with Danchai, well ridden by Luke Tarrant, in 2015.
