Warning over dangerous surf
DANGEROUS surf conditions are expected to plague the NSW coast today and through to Thursday.
Surf Life Saving NSW has advised swimmers, surfers, rock fishermen and boat skippers to take extreme caution.
Large waves are expected to pound beaches, rock shelves and headlands and river bar crossings.
Southerly swells will reach 3-4m at open beaches, with a swell period of up to 12 seconds.
"People need to take extreme care when visiting the coastline in the coming few days," SLSNSW lifesaving manager Dean Storey said.
To avoid putting themselves at risk, SLSNSW advised people to:
- Avoid rockfishing between Tuesday - Thursday
- Novice surfers should avoid surfing between Tuesday and Thursday
- Boaties are advised to avoid bar crossings and seek local advice on weather and bar conditions
- Anyone intent on swimming should only swim at patrolled beaches, between the red and yellow flags.
