Aussie star edged in ‘greatest final ever seen’

ONE of the great half-pipe runs in X Games history has prevented Australian snowboarder Scotty James winning a key Winter Olympic lead-up event.

The 23-year-old’s final run of 98 in the Aspen event (Monday AEDT) would have won gold in any of the past five competitions in Colorado but it wasn’t enough to better an immense effort from Japanese rival Ayumu Hirano.

Hirano landed consecutive quadruple spins in his final run to give the Olympic silver medallist 99 out of 100 and relegate the world champion to second place.
