WATCH: Fisher drives with dead shark strapped to bullbar

A PERTH motorist who was caught on film driving with a large shark tied to the front of their car has become a social media sensation.

Julie Wright spotted the four wheel drive in Safety Bay, near Rockingham, on Monday afternoon and posted it to the Perth & WA Fishing Reports page. 

"Just saw this in Safety Bay!! Had to look twice," she wrote. 

Twenty-four hours later the video had been viewed 400,000 times and was the subject of many memes.

The animal has been identified as a tiger shark.

Fisheries Perth metropolitan region manager Tony Cappelluti told Nine News while strapping a dead shark to your car is not actually illegal, that doesn't mean it's smart.

"Probably driving around with a shark attached to your bull bar is not a sensible thing to do, however there is nothing under the fisheries act that prohibits that. 

"So our advice to people is to treat your fish well, be discrete about your activity and don't bring attention to yourself."
