Watch Merit in action live online

A LIVE feed will be available here on our site from Telcoinabox Merit during the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race from Saturday.

“I don’t know of anybody who has ever done it before,” said Merit’s Skipper Leo Rodriguez.

“I’ve never seen any other boat do any live streaming, it’s always been pre-recorded.”

Highlights of the race and live coverage will be available here and on all APN news websites across Queensland and Northern New South Wales.

The idea was concocted during a meeting between Whitsunday Times General Manager Jim Sherrington, Waterline on Shingley owner Tony Logan and Mr Rodriguez.

The servers and systems from Mr Rodriguez’s company Voice2net Telecom in conjunction with Streaming Video Systems are making the connection possible.

General Manager of APN Online Hugh Martin is excited about the prospect for APN readers.

"It will provide a pretty unique fly on the wall view for readers," he said.

“It’s an unusual thing for news sites. But it shows what we can do with technology and good access to key events and stories that matter to our readers."
