WATCH: Olympic competitor hit with skate is sickening video

A VIDEO has captured the sickening moment an ice hockey player was struck in the face with a skate during the Winter Olympics.

Norwegian player Kristian Forsberg suffered the gruesome injury during a fierce match against Sweden.

The footage showed Forsberg leaning in to try to gain possession of the puck when one of the rival players was knocked to the ground and his skate connected with Forsberg's face.

The 31-year-old clutched his face as he dropped to the ice and was later seen walking out of the rink with blood gushing out of his nose.

Sweden ended up winning the Olympic match 4-0.
