TASK Force Recovery is focusing on rebuilding regional Queensland while emergency services set about delivering immediate relief in the South East, Major General Mick Slater said this morning.

“We will not forget the regions," the Major General said.

"While the focus today is on immediate emergency responses taking place in the South East, Task Force Recovery is responsible for long-term rebuilding across the whole impacted area."

The Major General accompanied Federal Minister for Agriculture, Queensland Senator Joe Ludwig and State Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace to Emerald yesterday.

They met with Member for Gregory Vaughan Johnson, Central Highland Regional Council Mayor Peter Maguire, councillors and community leaders.  They undertook a tour of the Emerald area to gain a better understanding of local issues.

This follows similar visits the Major General has undertaken to Rockhampton, Condamine, Theodore, St George, Bundaberg and Gladstone.

More visits are being planned for the coming days.

"We have the capacity in Australia to respond, but we can't do it all at once and it's going to take time," he said.

"It is a massive job and we've already begun.  Main Roads already has people on the ground in rural Queensland, repairing roads.

“We are aware that the different communities have different needs; but our number one priority in all regions is people and looking after the human needs of the various communities.

"After people the real focus is to get the economy up and running," he said.
