Welcome back for butcher

SUNCOAST Meats and Fruit, Tweed Heads is now firmly back in owner Mike Allen’s capable hands.

Mr Allen sold the successful 42 Recreation St fruit, vegetable and meat business six-months ago, but maintained ownership of the building, then gave himself a Christmas present by regaining owner-ship of the business in December after the interim owner developed urgent matters elsewhere.

He said the key to the business’s success was his 40 years of experience in the meat industry and the familial atmosphere among the staff.

“We’ve also been so successful because we buy direct from the farmer,” Mr Allen said.

Mr Allen’s business manager Brock Lantry said the business only sold quality Australian products.

Mr Allen said it was not just his customers who were disappointed with his six-month absence.

“A lot of the staff have been here for a long time,” he said. “They were mortified when I left and they were glad to see me back.”

He said customers were beginning to flock back in droves to the shop, which had always offered “the best quality produce at the best prices”.

“We’re doing a sausage sizzle on Friday to generate a bit of interest,” Mr Allen said. “We used to do them regularly, on Saturday mornings, but they were so popular they started to get out of control.”
