Well-wishers surround Myrtle on 100th birthday

SURROUNDED by her family and friends, Myrtle Smith celebrated her 100th birthday.

Mrs Smith was overwhelmed by the good wishes of her family and friends, and from many dignitaries.

Living in Ipswich her entire life, Mrs Smith spent many years performing charity work in various organisations and is a life member of the Goodna RSL.

Mrs Smith has been a long-time reader of the QT, reading her mother's copy of the paper since she was six years old. She continues to read the Queensland Times today.

The long-time North Booval resident received congratulatory letters from the Queen, Tony Abbott, Shayne Neumann and Mayor Paul Pisasale.

Mrs Smith also received letters from Governor-General Peter Cosgrove and a visit from Ipswich MP Ian Berry.

Relatives came from Brisbane and the Gold Coast to celebrate the milestone.

They marked the occasion with a morning tea.

Her family thanked the staff at Milford Grange Retirement Community.
