Westpac Bank agency closure frustrates Evans businesss

BUSINESSES in Evans Head may find doing their day-to-day banking has become a lot harder.

The Westpac agency that resided in the newsagency in Oak St has closed until further notice as management discusses whether or not it is viable to stay open.

Business owners Mick Metcalf, of Metcalf Meats, and Coady Strong, of Beachside Bargains, are frustrated at not having the service available.

"It currently takes me an hour-and-a-half to drive to Ballina to do my banking and I don't have the time to keep doing that," Mr Strong said.

"If Westpac doesn't reopen soon I will have to change banks, and our family businesses have been with them for 50 years."

Mr Metcalf's business has been operating in Evans Head for 22 years and he has always banked with Westpac as well.

"We've been told that it may take up to two months to make a decision," he said.

"You don't want to go running into Ballina to get change all the time."

The Rivertown Times left a message for Westpac Ballina but at the time of publication was yet to hear back.
