PAPER cups litter the ground as vibrations pulse through the earth beneath your feet.

There isn't a face without a smile or a stranger you haven't made your friend.

It's loud, it's crowded and the energy is unlike anything else.

It's been a whole trip around the sun, but it's finally returned.

Welcome back to the summer festival season.

This year Brisbane has the line-up to rival all others with something for every music taste, and if the theatre or intimate gigs are more your scene, then it's got plenty on offer in that department, too.

Here's a sneak peek of what's coming up on the big stage this summer.

FESTIVALS

Woodford Folk Festival, December 27, 2017 - January 1, 2018

There is no better way to bring in the new year, than in the company of 2000 performers and herds of like-minded people. Held across six days and six nights, the Woodford Folk Festival has long been a standout on any music buff's social calendar. John Butler, The Beautiful Girls, Montaigne and Kate Miller-Heidke are just a few of the names headlining the festival which is jam-packed with activities like crafts, comedians, meditation sessions, puppet shows and lantern performances.

St Jerome's Laneway Festival, February 10, 2018

St Jerome's Laneway Festival, or just Laneway as the cool kids call it, continues to attract some stunning names to its multi-stage event each year and this summer is no exception. Flavour of the year Amy Shark will be among other music talents including City Calm Down and Mac Demarco as this popular festival fires up in February.

CONCERTS

Culture Club, December 2, 2017

Boy George and his posse are heading to the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in December and they're bringing a whole host of other names with them including special guest Tom Bailey of the Thompson Twins who will play his hits live for the first time in 27 years.

Shawn Mendes, November 29, 2017

Multi-platinum singer/songwriter Shawn Mendes is bringing his Illuminate World Tour to Brisbane in just a few weeks. The Canadian musician this year brought us top tracks There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back and Treat You Better which will surely be among the fan favourites when he graces the River City on November 29.

THEATRE

Disney's Aladdin - The Musical, from February 25, 2018

From the producer of The Lion King, Aladdin is on its way to Brisbane in all its extravagant glory. Featuring all your favourite songs from the beloved children's film, plus new music, it's a trip down Nostalgia Lane for some, and the coming-to-life of a favourite tale for everyone. Mamma Mia: The Musical, December 26, 2017 - January 21, 2018

Here we go again! How could you resist a live rendition of one of our favourite musical films in the past decade, especially when ABBA's hottest hits are at the forefront?
