What's the handicap when the course catches fire?

SOMETIMES you just want a lazy round of golf with mates.

Then you remember you live in Australia and your game is now threatened by a wall of flame.

A Reddit user named "Salty Ferret" has posted a photo to the Australian community on the site, with the caption, " Mates and I decided to play a quiet round of golf this morning. Forgot that we lived in Australia…".

Many have joked the risk of fire while golfing in Australia is "par for the course".

The golfer wrote the fire "started small but then the wind picked up and it really escalated" at the Ipswich Golf Club.

"The Firies were called but they mainly worked to contain it, not extinguish it," he wrote.

"We definitely played that hole much quicker than the others".

"At first we thought it was just back-burning, then it kept getting larger and then just really started getting out of hand.

"Only when the fire trucks turned up we started realizing that maybe it wasn't a planned fire.

"It probably got within about 15m of a house at one stage, but luckily they managed to contain it before it did any damage."

Emergency Services were unable to confirm the time and exact location of the fire.

His photo has received more than 2000 votes of support on the site.
