What's a MILF? A polite letter from an ageing couple

This was probably the letter of the day.

After reading an investigation by The Economist into how the porn industry was being affected by the internet, a reading couple asked for a curious explanation.

Describing themselves as having "considerable international sex experience", the pair wrote to the venerable publication to ask for a specific definition.

The Economist's article mentioned the term 'MILF', leaving the two befuddled.

"Apparently this is the most searched term on porn sites both in Holland and in Italy, but we have absolutely no idea of what this is referring to or what this practice could be.

"Could you please illuminate us… It is never too late to learn something new and enjoyable… and we are too old to accept to feel ourselves ignorant on these issues."

The letter writer insisted they did not wish to search out 'MILF' on the internet because they did not want to be spammed with "silly and unnecessary porn... until the end of our days".

And "the letter of the week" award goes to these two sexplorers who, after reading our recent porn coverage, sent us a request in reference to this story: http://econ.st/1Oav3nZ

The letter from the two Dutch-Italian "sexplorers" was made public on The Economist's Facebook page, although it did not include their names.

The Economist has not said whether it replied to the pair.

For those readers who are waiting for a supplied definition, probably best you ask your parents… or your adult children.
