WHEN Northern Rivers' disk-jockey music producers Craig Wilson and Richard Somerville met late last year the pair knew they were onto something special.

They quickly realised a common love of dance music, including a "massive passion for Nu Disco and House", and that they'd met their musical match.

Better known to Northern Rivers dance fans as 1iSamurai (Mr Wilson) and Syikom (Mr Somerville), the pair set about putting down tracks under the name Somerville and Wilson.

Others agreed their work was something special, and soon recording companies came knocking at their door.

That included major European underground labels UK-based Funk Me Recordings, and Italy-based Hell Yeah Recordings.

Their three-track Love Threshold EP, which included original tracks Get Me Up, 50Watt Meg and Love Threshold was released through Funk Me Recordings in July.

Funk Me Recordings also commissioned Somerville and Wilson to remix other artists' work and signed another original, Soul Traffic.

With Hell Yeah Recordings the pair will soon release a remix, which will be the first time Australian artists have been released through the label.

"Music is a serendipitous sort of venture and when we are making music we don't necessarily have a certain label in mind, we just have a particular flavour in mind and it might suit a label or it might not," Mr Wilson said.

"We sent off three tracks and they really liked them, so from there we went on a production mission and hoped for the best it was going to be the right flavour.

"That is the big one you hope for as an artist, that you will have an original track released on an underground label.

"That is what you are hoping is going to happen."

Somerville and Wilson play live at the Lismore City Bowling Club. Their next show is this Saturday, November 17.
