Where is the sweltering summer?

Where is the sweltering summer?

It's a question that Lauren Miners, 14, had while sitting beside the pool at Club Banora Oasis Pools at Banora Point yesterday.

"I don't like it at all.  I miss the sweltering heat," Ms Miners said. "It's been pretty miserable weather."

Across the last 10 years 2011 was the coolest December in the Tweed and southern Gold Coast, according to meteorologists.

The Bureau of Meteorology reported the average maximum for last month at Coolangatta was 26.4C a half a degree lower than last year average maximum for December 2010.

The hottest December in the last 10 year at Coolangatta was in 2005 where the mean average maximum was 29.2C.
Coolangatta had one day over 30C in December.

The low December maximum temperatures were even more extreme at Murwillumbah.

The average maximum was only 26C a full degree cooler than the second lowest December average in the last ten years, which was in 2006.

Ms Miners and Vanessa Sundin-Warne, 14, were at the pool yesterday because the beach was unappealing with cool and unstable weather conditions.

"The beach was still a bit choppy," Ms Sundin-Warne said.

"I think I have gone to the beach once this year and I didn't even go into the water.

"I hope that it changes this month we have to go back to school on January 30."

It's unlikely to change for the next few days with the bureau predicting cloudy conditions for the next four days with maximum temperatures in the mid to high 20s.
