Whiz kid develops app

DALBY computer whiz kid Hayden Spence has used his technical knowledge to streamline the sometimes stressful process of gaining a driver's licence.

Mr Spence has designed, created and launched an iPhone app to make filling out learner driver log books simpler for new motorists.

The Dalby State High School Year 12 student said he started working on the iLearner app after becoming frustrated with the "lengthy process" of filling out the log book.

While his app does not replace the logbook, it does automatically calculate the time driven and the distance driven as well as a wealth of other helpful information.

It has been on sale on the Apple website since last Friday.

"I sat down and wrote all of the code for it," Mr Spence said.

"It took about two weeks."

Designing the app was a natural progression for the 17-year-old, who has been interested in computers since he was two.

Mr Spence's many technical achievements include creating his own internet service provider.

He is already studying one module of a University of Southern Queensland foundation programming course and hopes to achieve great heights in his future career.

"I plan on moving to America and working for Apple."

Mr Spence said he was entitled to keep $1.27 of the $1.99 price of every app sold.
