Why Christmas baby is special for this Toowoomba couple

DAMIEN Skinner and Louise van Booma had no idea they'd be welcoming a new child as a Christmas present.

The Lockyer Valley couple was blessed with a festive miracle yesterday when their second child Jaxon was born at Toowoomba Hospital at 9.50am.

The birth was particularly special for Mr Skinner, 33, who lost his first son at 12 weeks of age with his previous partner.

"We weren't going to find out the gender until birth, so this one is special to me - he's gorgeous," he said.

"It's very special, to have a Christmas Day baby."

Ms van Booma said she went into labour about 7am, before Mr Skinner got her into the car and rushed her to Toowoomba.

"We were at home - it all happened in a short amount of time," she said.

"We travelled from near Gatton to get to Toowoomba Hospital."

This is the couple's second child, with a daughter born 14 months ago.
