Wiggles Big Red Car fetches $35,700 at auction

THERE'S no word yet on the Australian buyer, but the Wiggles' Big Red Car has found a new home 

After 10 days and 61 bids, the Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet sold for $35,700 - all of which VW donated to charity SIDS and Kids.

Early estimates forecast the car could raise more than $40,000. 

Anke Koeckler, Volkswagen Group Australia managing director said: "We are very pleased with the amount raised by the Volkswagen Big Red Car auction. The $35,700 will all go to SIDS and Kids to be used in the development of an Android version of the Safe Sleeping Education app and the conversion of the app into additional languages."

It wasn't the same Big Red Car used during stage shows or their feature-length movie, but the vehicle used by the Wiggles when touring.

Anthony Field, the Blue Wiggle, is excited for the adventures ahead for the Volkswagen Big Red Car.

"It's a time of new beginnings for all of us. Greg, Murray, Jeff and I have shared many happy times in the Volkswagen Big Red Car and we're really pleased to see it will continue life in a safe pair of hands and in its rightful home, Australia.  

"Raising funds for SIDS and Kids, a charity that's particularly close to our hearts is the icing on the cake!"
