Wild weather warning for Tweed, Northern Rivers

TWEED residents are being warned to prepare for heavy rain and gale force weather conditions over the next 48 hours, with a broad low pressure trough set to deepen off the coast tomorrow.

The NSW SES Richmond Tweed region issued the warning late today, warning residents the low pressure system was expected to bring heavy, widespread rain in excess of 100mm, accompanied by gale force wind conditions.

The wild weather is expected to begin this evening and continue into tomorrow before easing early Thursday morning.

NSW SES Richmond Tweed Region is urging residents to monitor weather conditions and to exercise caution should the weather conditions deteriorate.

NSW SES Richmond Tweed Deputy Region Controller Wayne Pettit warned residents to reduce risks to personal safety and property damage by staying clear of creeks and stormwater drains, not driving through floodwater, by moving cars under cover and away from trees, and by remaining indoors where possible during severe weather conditions.

"Although the forecasted rain this week is not predicted to be severe, flash flooding is still a potential across the region, so please be mindful of your surrounds and always keep clear of flood waters,” Mr Pettit said.

Information on how residents can prepare for severe weather can be obtained by visiting the NSW SES website www.ses.nsw.gov.au.
