Will Greens Cr Katie Milne be mayor of Tweed?
IN a surprise twist, Greens councillor Katie Milne looks set to be nominated for the role of Tweed Shire Council mayor on Thursday.
While last week it was expected Cr Milne would back current Mayor Cr Bagnall, and it was uncertain if Cr Barry Longland would also vote in favour of Bagnall, it's now claimed Cr Longland will support Cr Warren Polglase.
"(Cr) Longland has refused to vote for me and favours (Cr) Polglase," Cr Bagnall said.
"It leaves me in a position of having to vote for Milne," he said.
Conservative independent councillors Carolyn Byrne and Phil Youngblutt will vote for veteran councillor Cr Polglase, so it is likely two councillors will be nominated for mayoralty on Thursday night.
If Cr Longland is swayed to vote for Cr Milne and it's a tie between her and Cr Polglase, luck will decide the mayor.
Names will be tossed in a hat (or similar) with a single winner drawn by a local government officer.
