Wind farm watchdog proposed by government
THE Federal Government has raised the ire of the renewable energy sector by proposing a "wind farm commission".
In a letter to crossbench Senators, Environment Minister Greg Hunt has offered to create a national wind farm commissioner in return for their support of the government's changes to the Renewable Energy Target.
Last week, Prime Minister Tony Abbott described wind farms as ugly and noisy, and boasted that the RET review had cut their proposed numbers.
The move follows a Senate committee's call for an "ombudsman" to oversee wind farm complaints, despite many inquiries around the world finding no evidence of health threats from wind turbines.
