Windows 10 set to come with new Chrome-like browser

WINDOWS 10 is set to come with a new light-weight internet browser which is said to be more like Chrome and Firefox.

Computing and technology site ZDNet says there has been talk for a while that Microsoft is going to make some big changes to Internet Explorer.

According to the report, Microsoft is working on a new browser, codenamed Spartan.

Thomas Nigro, a Microsoft Student Partner lead and developer of the modern version of VLC, mentioned on Twitter earlier this month that he heard Microsoft was building a brand-new browser.

ZDNet says Spartan is still going to use Microsoft's Chakra JavaScript engine and Microsoft's Trident rendering engine (not WebKit).

"The coming browser will look and feel more like Chrome and Firefox and will support extensions,'' the report says.

Windows 10 (at least the desktop version) will ship with both Spartan and IE 11, ZDNet's sources say.

IE 11 will be there for backward-compatibility.

The new browser is expected to be available for mobile (phone/tablet) versions as well as desktop.
