Winery enjoys fruitful harvest

ILNAM Estate Wines are preparing for a bumper season despite poor harvests in previous years.

Winemaker Mark Quinn said weather conditions had been kind to the Tweed shire's only winery.

"The main difference for us this year is that we actually had rains before spring came along," he said.

Mr Quinn said the last two seasons had been crippling the winery, with consistent rain making it difficult to keep the fruit dry.

He has been making wine at the Carool vineyard since 2000.

"It's a valley of possibilities," he said.

"The soils are beautiful, deep, rich and young and it would be some of the freshest, youngest soils in Australia."

The winery is open to the public five days a week for wine tasting and tour groups.
