Woman airlifted after fishing swivel lodges in her eye

RACQ CareFlight Rescue has airlifted a woman with a swivel from a fishing line stuck in her eye.

The woman in her 20s had been fishing with family when she caught what was believed to be a stingray.

She pulled back on the rod and freed the animal, causing the fishing tackle to fling out of the water.

During the ordeal, the swivel tied to her fishing line became lodged in her right eye.

RACQ CareFlight Rescue transferred the woman from Hervey Bay Hospital to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital on Friday night.

She was in a serious but stable condition.
