Woman charged after police chase in Mooball
A WOMAN will face Tweed Local Court today on several charges after threatening staff at a Mooball cafe before leading police on a short chase.
Tweed Byron LAC police were called just after 2.10pm on Saturday after a 26-year-old woman entered a cafe on Tweed Valley Way at Mooball and attempted to pay for fuel with a fraudulent cheque.
After she was challenged by staff members, the woman, who was allegedly in possession of a knife, threatened staff before fleeing.
Officers from the Tweed/Byron LAC were contacted and arrived a short time later, arresting the woman nearby after a short foot chase.
Following her arrest, police discovered a stolen Chrysler sedan nearby which was seized for forensic examinations.
Police will allege the woman was the driver of the Chrysler and had previously led police on two short pursuits in the Tweed/Byron area.
The woman was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where she was charged with several offences including; two charges of failing to stop police pursuit (Skye’s Law), two charges of driving whilst disqualified, two charges of take and drive conveyance, obtain benefit by deception, and resisting arrest.
She was refused bail and is due to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court today.
