Woman charged with connection to Murwillumbah murder

THE wife of a man accused of murdering his father has faced court, charged with being an accessory to murder. 

Candace Jodie Martin, 25, was due to face Byron Bay Local Court on Friday afternoon, charged with involvement in the murder of Michael Martin. 

She faced Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday morning, after being arrested and charged with conspiracy to murder, being an accessory before the fact of murder and being an accessory after the fact to murder on Thursday. 

She was successfully extradited back to NSW.

TWEED/Byron Local Area Command crime manager Detective Inspector Brendon Cullen has welcomed the arrest of a 25-year-old woman in relation to Michael Martin's murder.

Insp Cullen said he was confident the woman, arrested at Esk on Thursday, would be successfully extradited. 

"Obviously some very good work has been done," Insp Cullen said.

"It's been a very lengthy and complex investigation and there's a way to go yet."

Insp Cullen said it was positive that officers' hard work into the case was coming to fruition. 

"It's been progressing the whole time. We've been very active in this investigation."

A WOMAN is expected to be extradited from Queensland and charged in relation to the murder of Murwillumbah man Michael Martin. 

Police said a 25-year-old woman was interviewed at Esk on Thursday. 

She was arrested on a NSW Police warrant for conspiracy to murder, being an accessory before the fact of murder and being an accessory after the fact to murder. 

She is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday, where NSW Police will apply for her to be extradited. 

Mr Martin, 46, was brutally murdered in his Quarry Rd, South Murwillumbah, apartment in the early hours of Friday June 13 last year. 

After making a public appeal for help, Mr Martin's son, of the same name, was charged with murder.
