Woman charged with assault on police detective

A MAN and a woman are on bail following an incident involving Warwick police detectives yesterday.

A spokesman for the Warwick Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) said officers had executed a search warrant on a residence located at River Terrace yesterday morning.

During the search police will allege a 23-year-old female located inside the residence attempted to resist arrest and obstruct police in the course of their duties.

The CIB spokesman said the woman kicked and tried to bite one of the detectives, as well as spitting on his clothing.

She has been charged with the serious assault of a police officer in relation to those offences and was also charged with causing wilful damage to the interior of her cell at the Warwick watchhouse where she was taken after her arrest.

A 23-year-old male who was also at the residence was also arrested as a result of the search warrant.

He was later charged with fraud offences relating to the alleged non-payment for fuel at a number of service stations in Brisbane and Ipswich, as well as in Warwick.

The pair was bailed from the watchhouse and are both due to appear in the Warwick Magistrates Court on September 11.
