Woman denied bail after Tweed police chase

A KINGSCLIFF woman will face court again in August after appearing at Tweed Heads Local Court today charged with a string of offences following two police pursuits through Tweed at the weekend.

Brittany Elizabeth Mackie, 26, was refused bail by Magistrate Dakin after she pleaded not guilty to 15 charges.

Tweed Byron police allege Ms Mackie dishonestly obtained property by deception on Monday, July 11, when she drove off from a Banora Point service station without paying for fuel.

Court documents show police also allege Ms Mackie was the driver behind the wheel of a stolen black Chrysler 300c during a short police chase at Kennedy Drive, Tweed Heads, early Saturday.

Later that morning police were involved in another short pursuit of the same vehicle when it spotted travelling more than 45kmh over the speed limit on Tweed Valley Way at South Murwillumbah.

Ms Mackie is also alleged to have then entered a cafe at Mooball, attempted to pay for fuel with a fraudulent cheque before threatening staff and fleeing on foot.

Police were called to the scene and arrested the woman nearby.

Magistrate Dakin denied the woman bail due to the serious nature of the offences and her having failed to appear at court for previous matters.

The defence called for a brief of evidence from the police, including CCTV, which Ms Mackie will reply to at a mention set for August 29, at Tweed Local Court.
