Woman dies after being attacked by 5.3m shark

A WOMAN has died following a shark attack off Perth's north coast, only two days after a West Australian surfer's death in hospital after losing a leg to a great white.

WA Police said the woman and her male partner were diving off the Mindarie coast yesterday morning when she was attacked.

Three fishermen in a five-metre boat helped the man get back into his boat by putting their vessel between him and the shark. He then pulled the woman from the water.

She is understood to have died before reaching land.

Police said the fishermen told them the shark was longer than their 5.3m boat.Ben Gerring, who was attacked while surfing off Mandurah, died in hospital on Friday.
