Woman found dead near Murwillumbah police station

POLICE say they do not yet know how a woman found dead near the Murwillumbah police station passed away.

The body of a 52-year-old woman was found in Church Lane shortly after 9pm yesterday with some reports suggesting it was found behind the police station.

Police have said they were called to the scene with reports of an injured woman but that she had passed away by the time they reached her.

A crime scene had been established and police were investigating the death.

A post mortem would determine the cause of death.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward by contacting Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
