Women's golf champs named

BECCY Kay, Judi Carr and Joy Anshaw are the Tweed Heads and Coolangatta Golf Club 2012 ladies champions.

Ms Anshaw, 83, Ms Carr, 71, and Beccy, 13, won divisions three, two and one respectively.

Beccy who has a handicap of one rounded off her victory speech with good grace, congratulating runner-up Michelle Gunawan.

"I'm sure it will be yours next year," she said.

She thanked her father, grandfather and the club's ladies committee for their support.

"It was a great day and congratulations to all that competed.

"It's been heavy going out there these last few weeks."

The member of two years and golfer for three also won the club's Trainee Pro Am at the weekend and will head to Coffs Harbour for the NSW Junior Open in four weeks.

Ms Carr said the final game of the competition had been cancelled the week before due to poor weather.

"The course was beautiful out there today.

"The last time I won was 1993 and I've spent the last four years fighting breast cancer and leukaemia," the 21-year member of the club said.

Ms Anshaw said she had been with the club for about 30 years.

"It's my first time winner of the club champ's though.

"We were lucky to get a good day today.

"I've played every week twice a week since 60 years old," she said.
