Cash declares women will get equity on government boards

A SENIOR female Turnbull government frontbencher has promised to give at least half the positions on government boards to women.

Employment Minister Michaelia Cash made the announcement yesterday during a speech to mark International Women's Day in Canberra.

The target would raise the bar from the previous 40% aim, to encourage the corporate sector to increase female participation on company boards.

Australia Institute research shows just 22% of the board roles on ASX200 listed companies are filled by women.
