Women's grant for elite sport

WOMEN who are aiming for an elite sporting career have been encouraged to apply for Federal Government grants to help them realise their dreams.

Member for Richmond Justine Elliott said the Sport Leadership Grants and Scholarships for Women program would make grants of up to $5000 for individuals and $10,000 for groups.

“This is a great opportunity for women in our region who are sporting coaches, officials, administrators, managers or marketers to further develop their skills and receive expert leadership training,” Ms Elliott said.

“The Sport Leadership Grants and Scholarships for Women program has supported more than 16,000 women since its inception in 2002 with a total funding allocation of $3.3 million.

“The initiative is aimed at tackling the gender divide in sport and bolstering the involvement of women in sport at all levels.”

Applications for the 2011/12 Sport Leadership Grants and Scholarships for Women close 29 April 2011.
