Wonder mum says its a juggle

THE Brady Bunch has nothing on this busy mum’s family.

Serene Beauty and Medispa salon co-ordinator Megan Waters is a mother to seven children and has managed to complete studies on sun-damage and ageing and run the Tugun salon which caters to such names as Jetstar Gold Coast Titans’ Scott Prince, model Chloe Maxwell and Miss Universe Australia Jesinta Campbell.

Mrs Waters said she was a born and bred Tweed Heads girl and her great-great-grandfather was the first doctor in the area.

“I am a mum of seven running a very busysalon and I do a great deal of fundraising,” she said.

“Four of my children are step-children but my husband and I have been together for 12 years so I certainly am a mum to them and class them as my children.”

Serene Beauty has been a leading southern Gold Coast salon for the past 10 years.

Mrs Waters said she was not different to any other hard-working mother and said although she “might have a few extra kids involved, we all have to juggle”.

“My husband sold his business recently and has taken on the ‘Mr Mum’ role which has certainly helped me to promote my own business.”

She said there was no segregation in her house between step children and her own and, though there was inevitable conflict, “it’s good fun”.

“An interesting house to say the least,” she said.

Mrs Waters’ eldest step-daughter Kate, 24, said she had all her siblings’ names tattooed down her back.

“The best thing about it is learning about motherhood without actually being a mother,” said Kate.

“I’m a step-mum myself and it’s kind of cool because I’ve been able to model myself on my own step-mum.”

She said with seven children it was amazing the amount of work Ms Waters was able to do and “I take my hat off to her”.

“Because I work for a car dealership my passion is cars, but I spend a lot of my time at the salon and all her staff are amazing.

“I do actually call her ‘mum’.”

Mrs Waters said the older children such Kate were wonderful role-models to the younger children.

“The kids were devastated when Kate moved out and their eyes just light up when the older kids come home,” she said.

“My six-year-old’s statement is she wants to be a beauty therapist, a doctor and a mermaid. They all get on amazingly well.”
