Woolies want Burleigh store

WOOLWORTHS plans to open a supermarket at Burleigh Heads.

The plan for the small supermarket on Park Ave has been lodged with the Gold Coast City Council but has yet to be approved.

According to the developers of the property, Olsen Ave, the development would provide a new concept of "high street, basket-style shopping" that the national retailer Woolworths would operate.

Woolworths community relations manager Simon Berger said the "small-format" supermarket was a different model for the national chain.

"Woolworths has a handful of smaller-format supermarkets across Australia and we're always looking for opportunities to tailor the right offer to customers," Mr Berger said.

"We think this location at Burleigh Heads would be great for a smaller-format store that provides convenience and top-up shopping, along with ready-made meals and other selections that will cater to locals and tourists alike.

"This is presently before the planning process, but if all goes well we're hoping to be able to provide customers with a convenient and exciting new offer at Burleigh Heads in 2013."
