100 workers to upgrade Tyalgum powerlines this weekend

A TEAM of 100 Essential Energy workers from Murwillumbah, Tweed Heads and neighbouring regional depots will descend on Tyalgum on Saturday (May 17) for a major power upgrade project.

Powerlines, poles and pole cross-arms will be replaced and new network switching equipment will be installed.

Work sites will include Van Den Broek Rd, Limpinwood Rd, Charbray Pl and Tyalgum Creek Rd.

Regional north coast manager Brendon Neyland said the work would provide a significant boost to electricity supply reliability and sustainability in the area.

He said 22 elevated work platforms and six crane borers would be used.

"We'll be replacing eight poles, installing two new gas switches and upgrading around 3000m of old copper powerline with stronger, lighter aluminium conductor.

"These new lines will strengthen the network, as well as increase capacity for future growth."

Work has been scheduled between 8.30am and 5pm, weather permitting.

All affected customers have received advance notification.
