Punch-up led to site walk-off

A TWEED Heads man has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm after he allegedly punched a workmate at a Southport building site.

The 24-year-old hit his 59-year-old colleague in the face after what a Gold Coast police spokeswoman described as “a work disagreement” at about 6.45am on Wednesday.

The Ormeau man suffered injury to his chest, face and mouth and was taken to the Gold Coast Hospital for treatment.

The incident led to 100 workers at the Nind Street site to walk off the job, the third time workers had walked from the $200 million twin tower development in three months over safety and morale concerns.

The Tweed Heads man will appear before the Southport Magistrates Court on July 17.
