Would-be fridge thieves sought by police
TWEED/Byron Police are searching for two young men who attempted to steal a fridge from a holiday park amenities block at Byron Bay over the weekend.
Police released CCTV footage today of the pair, believed to be aged in their teens, showing them attempting to negotiate the large white fridge out of the amenities block at Suffolk Beachfront Holiday Park at Alcorn St, between 1.30am and 1.45am on Saturday.
The CCTV footage shows the men moving the fridge from the wall before attempting to manoevre it out the door, before either being disturbed or giving up on the tight squeeze.
The first male is described as being of Caucasian appearance, in his late teens, tall thin build, long blonde hair, wearing jeans and sneakers. At the time he was carrying a backpack and wearing his cap backwards.
The second male is described as being of Caucasian appearance, in his late teens, of olive complexion, wearing shorts, a light coloured hooded top and slip on shoes. He had a distinctive tattoo on the rear of his right calf.
Police said the males were believed to have been seen slowly driving through the holiday park earlier that evening in a silver coloured vehicle, described as an older model sedan, possibly a Magna or similar.
Anyone who recognises the men or has further information is urged to contact Senior Constable Matt Roach at Byron Bay Police Station on 02 6685 9499 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
