Yes, this mysterious 'creature' is a fake

A PHOTO of a mysterious looking creature has been doing the rounds on Bundaberg social media, and yes the creature once existed, but it doesn't now.

A Bundaberg Forum user posted the image, along with the caption "I don't know if anyone will know but like what the bloody hell is this? Was from Bundy northside menacing crab pots."

Several Facebookers were quick to point out the image was a fake.

That's unless someone got in their DeLorean and travelled back to the Permian period of course, when the creature, diplocaulus, actually existed in North America. That's about 300 million years ago.

So don't fear, there are no diplocaulus in Bundaberg's waterways.
