Surfers in turf war

YOU may have seen members of the Cabarita Surf Club on the beach with golf sticks on Sunday and thought "what the?"

It was all for a good cause.

The club is gearing up to pit its golfing expertise against the Cabarita Beach Bowls and Sports Club to raise funds for the Lions Club.

"We figured the Lions Club does so much for everyone all the time and thought we'd like to give them a helping hand for once," said Vice president Andrew baker.

"Members from both clubs are welcome to try their hand, whether they are a golfer or not.

"It should be a fun day with lots of community spirit."

The Inaugural Surf n' Turf Golf Challenge is set for Sunday, September 23 at the Mullumbimby Golf Club with tee off set for 7am.

The day costs $40 per player and includes 18 holes of golf, prizes, longest drives, novelty holes, a BBQ and limited drinks after the game at presentation.

The presentation will be held at the Cabarita Beach Surf Club.

All interested parties can register on the starters sheets displayed at the gold club notice board at Cabarita Beach Bowls and Sports Club or contact the Golf Club Committee on 0418 617 268 (Jason Fowler), 0418 590 849 (Fred Perlenfein), 0427 854 237 (Wayne Gill) or 0428 869 625 (Chris Middleton).

It's not too late to sign up. Last minute participants should contact Shaun Draman at the surf club on 0401 839 045.
