Young anime artist falls on crafty success with shoes

WHEN 13-year-old Aleyra Turnley-Dow took to a pair of canvas shoes with coloured markers, she didn't expect her work to be in such high demand.

The anime and manga artist got crafty with specialist copic markers on a $10 pair of white canvas shoes two weeks ago and after her mum posted pictures on a Facebook classified group, the orders started to flow in from around the region.

"I fell in love with anime and a lot of the action style," she said.

"I hope they can be something unique."

Aleyra said she used bees wax over her designs to make sure they were water proof and stood the test of time.

Aleyra's mum Naomi Turnley is confident the budding artist can make a career from her designs, but only after her school work is finished.

"Down the track when she gets better at it and has more time, I think she might start filling the orders," Ms Turnley said.

"The amount of requests for orders she has had has just been ridiculous.

"But only after her assignments and exams are done and as long as her school work is finished first.

"The support has been amazing.

"We had hundreds of inquiries."
