Youngblutt back in the ring

TWEED Shire councillor Phil Youngblutt has backflipped on his decision to retire and will contest the council elections.

In January, Cr Youngblutt announced he was going to call it quits and not run for another term.

After consultation with members of the community he changed his mind.

"A lot of people, not just private individuals, but also businesses and people in government have asked me to run again," he said.

Cr Youngblutt said he was concerned that The Greens would take over council.

"There is a concerted effort from The Greens to take over council," he said.

"It would be a disaster if they do it.

"Some of the things The Greens want are just impossible."

At the time Cr Youngblutt announced his retirement, he said there were issues that he wished were settled such as the Byrrill Creek dam project.

The Greens councillor Katie Milne was unavailable for comment on Cr Youngblutt's decision.
