Zonta supporting African women
ONE million bras is a target Zonta Southern Gold Coast Tweed is aiming to contribute to during April.
The target set by British charity Oxfam to help African women has been boosted by Lush Hair and Beauty Tweed Heads South, which contributed about 50 bras.
Zonta membership director Marie-Elise Allen said she hoped this achievement would inspire many women to rummage through their bra drawers this month.
"In the latest drive to help African women, Oxfam has launched the Big Bra Hunt campaign," Ms Allen said.
"Oxfam is calling on women to donate their unwanted bras to charity - for the betterment of African women.
"Zonta is eager to support this quest to gather a million unwanted bras, and would encourage all readers to rifle through their undies drawer and see how many unwanted bras have worked their way to the bottom."
She encouraged ladies to bring these bras Zonta's Monday dinner meeting.
"This is all about being willing to grab a friend and come and join us for dinner with old bras, or new ones if you are feeling especially generous, and have a fun night with us.
"What better time to take the opportunity to see what Zonta is all about and how through, in this instance, cleaning out our drawers can benefit other women around the world?"
Dinner will be on April 16 at South Tweed Sports' Secret Garden room, and feature guest speaker Jill Stephan from Charity Operation Uganda.
Guests should gather at 6.30pm for a 7pm start to the $20 dinner.
Phone or text Ms Allen on 0412 632 304 for bookings.
There will be a prize for the person who brings the most bras.
